Sickness of Kasongo Bavon:
He is 33 years old, a native of Kolwezi (Katanga, Republic of Congo) a neoapostolic and an ambulant vendor at the time of the healing, married and with one daughter. Towards the end of March of 2003, Mr. Bavon got a high fever and started shivering. Thinking it was malaria, which is common in that place, he self-medicated. But the symptoms aggravated, thus he decided to go to the Hospital of the Catholic Mission in Kayeye, directed by the Siervas de San Jose. The doctor of the center visited him and after a clinical diagnosis of probable acute peritonitis with ‘tifica’ perforation, he made an emergency explorative laparotomy, in the course of which he diagnosed typhoid fever with perforation in the last part of the ‘ileum’ and made an ‘ileal’ resection. At the end of the intervention, the nurse, a Sierva de San Jose helping the doctor, entrusted the patient to the intercession of Mo. Bonifacia, foundress of the Congregation, believing he would not survive. After a month, Mr. Bavon’s state was alarming. A clinic diagnosis described it as an acute intestinal obstruction and on June 3, he was submitted to a new explorative laparotomy which manifested a very grave abdominal picture because of the presence of a diffused abdominal perivisceritis, a sickness which the doctor saw for the first time. He did another very laborious adhesiolisis that took four hours, a counter-indicated therapy in that case. The prognosis was very unfortunate. After three days the wound was opened and the situation became desperate.
Invocation to Bonifacia Rodriguez:
June 6, 2003: The Siervas de San Jose intensified their prayer and started a novena, since there was no hope that he will survive. On June 9, the doctor felt obliged to perform another operation for the third time. Before starting, he invoked MO. Bonifacia and the nurses there present joined him in his prayer. The laparotomy evidenced the presence of a plastic peritonitis with two perforations in the intestines. He quickly sutured the perforations upon seeing the extreme gravity of Bavon. Without doing anything else, he closed the abdomen quickly and told his father that probably he would die in a few hours, a prognosis shared by the health personnel of the Center.
Inexplicable Healing:
Hoping against hope, the following day, Kasongo Bavon felt healed. He was not feeling any pain and asked for food insistently. On the third day, the wound was dried and clean, without suppuration and the intestinal flow was resumed spontaneously.
On March 26, 2010, the Cardinals and Bishops met in Ordinary Session with His Excellency Mons. D. Javier Echevarria Rodriguez, Titular Bishop of Cilibia as “Ponente” of the Cause. They recognized that the healing of Mr. Kasongo Bavon is a true miracle attributed to the intercession of Bl. Bonifacia Rodriguez de Castro.
That the proof of the miracle made by God through the intercession of Bl. Bonifacia Rodriguez de Castro, Foundress of the Congregation of the Siervas de San Jose, that is, the very fast, perfect and lasting healing of Mr. Kasongo Bavon from “peritonite da perforazione intestinale tifica, con successive peritonite plastic e fistula entero-cutanea”.
The Supreme Pontiff ordered that this decree would be made public and be recorded in the Acts of the Congregation of the Causes of the Saints in Rome, March 27, 2010.
